The Opportunity

Job creation in and skills transfer to the previously disadvantaged population groups has always been a high priority of the present Government. This has been reconfirmed by the President in his speech in Parliament in February 2007. The Joint Initiative on Priority Skills Acquisition (JIPSA) is a high level initiative led by the Deputy President to identify solutions to skills shortages in critical areas over the next three years. JIPSA is a joint initiative between government, labour and business.

The Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (ASGISA) has identified six factors that constrain growth in South Africa. One of these is the shortage of skills. JIPSA will develop strategies for fast-tracking skills delivery in agriculture, and unblocking obstacles so as to support ASGISA’s objectives for promoting economic growth, and halving poverty and unemployment by 2014. Numerous funds and programmes for Critical and Scarce skills training by the AGRISeta and Department of Labour (DOL) have now been refocused for immediate delivery. This has created a unique opportunity for a quality Service Provider such as Sikhula Training.
